[PSRList] Invitation: RSTP workshop in Halifax on Supporting Settlement and Integration

RSTP is offering a free workshop on the topic of Supporting Settlement and Integration on Saturday, April 22 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm (refreshments provided). The workshop will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the Captain William Spry Community Centre on 16 Sussex Street in the Community Multi-Purpose room.

The workshop is designed for sponsors new to sponsorship, and experienced sponsors alike! Please feel very welcome to advertise widely to any sponsors that you are in contact with that may be interested in attending.

The workshop will discuss the following themes of settlement and integration support:


  *   Settlement challenges and best practices: What are some approaches and tools to plan for the successful settlement support of sponsored newcomers?


  *   Ethical practices for sponsoring groups: How do power imbalances affect the relationship between sponsors and newcomers, and how can this be minimized?


  *   Managing expectations: What expectations do sponsors and newcomers have of each other, and how can expectations be managed to avoid potential conflict, and facilitate successful sponsorship?
