We would like to inform you about upcoming Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) training sessions in Yellowknife.  Our program is designed to provide assistance and support to private refugee sponsorship groups across Canada, and we look forward to meeting private sponsors, settlement workers, and everyone interested in the subject or Private Refugee Sponsorship during the upcoming events in Yellowknife.



We will be delivering three sessions that will focus on different issues related to Private Refugee Sponsorship program.


1 - Friday, March 17, 2017

FREE Workshop: SETTLEMENT WORKERS & PRIVATE SPONSORSHIP OF REFUGEES PROGRAM
We would like to invite Settlement Workers and other Settlement Service Provider Organizations staff members who are assisting clients that have come to Canada through private sponsorship. The goal is to assist Settlement Workers in supporting their clients by gaining a thorough understanding of how the private sponsorship of refugees program works, what to do if conflict arises between sponsors and newcomers, and the various ways that Settlement Workers can provide support.
We will explore various topics, including:

  *   The different categories of Canadian refugee resettlement
  *   Main sponsoring groups and their responsibilities
  *   The role of a Settlement Worker in a private sponsorship
  *   What you can do if there is a sponsorship dispute
  *   Services and resources available to Settlement Workers

FREE Workshop: PRIVATE REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP - SUPPORTING SETTLEMENT AND MANAGING EXPECTATIONS

We would like to invite new and experiences sponsors, as well as everyone who is interested in Private Refugee Sponsorship Program to join us for a free workshop that will focus on the subject of post-arrival settlement and integration support. We will discuss the following topics:

  *   Settlement preparation: What are some approaches and tools to plan for successful settlement of sponsored refugees?
  *   Settlement resources: What resources are available in Yellowknife that will assist in preparing for successful settlement?
  *   Managing expectations: What are sponsors' and refugees' expectations of each other and how can expectations be managed to avoid potential conflict?
  *   Power imbalance: How do power imbalances affect the relationship between sponsors and refugees and how can this be minimized?
  *   Preparing for the end of sponsorship: When should sponsors start preparing for the end of sponsorship period? How to conduct evaluation of achievements?
