Dear Listmates in Toronto and area,

On behalf of Toronto Friends of Refugees, you're invited to 'Making Toronto
Home' - a FREE evening of dialogue and networking all about home and
belonging on April 8th at The 519. Please share with your networks, groups
and anyone interested. More info below:

What is 'home'? What does it mean to belong somewhere? How can we make
Toronto more welcoming? On *April 8*, join us at *The* *519 Community
Centre* for an evening about making Toronto home.



Commemorating *Refugee Rights Day* and the 30th anniversary of the awarding
of the *Nansen Refugee Medal* to the People of Canada, we want to continue
the conversation on welcoming refugees to Toronto. *Making Toronto
Home* features
a moderated *panel discussion* with four former refugees who came to Canada
after fleeing armed conflict and/or persecution in Eritrea, Iran and Sudan.



We are honoured and excited that *Debbie Douglas* (Executive
Director, OCASI & community activist) will be moderating the discussion and
that the following panelists will be sharing their perspectives with us:




   - ·       Arsham Parsi, Community Activist
   - ·       Azaria Wolday, Settlement Services Manager
   - ·       Ruth Mathiang, Singer
   - ·       Waleed Abdulhamid, Musician & Teacher



We will be joined by local non-profit organizations that offer settlement,
mental health and other programs and services for newcomers in the city.
Throughout the evening attendees will have the opportunity to learn more
about the types of services and programs available.



The evening will conclude with a mixer that gives refugee sponsors,
newcomers, service providers and other community members a chance to
connect and share their experiences.
