[PSRList] Refugee post-secondary education integration - Applicable to the Members of the National Capital Region Settlement Community

Dear Members of the National Capital Region Settlement Community,

Prof. Craig Forces at uOttawa's Faculty of Law is creating a program to facilitate academic success in vulnerable refugee populations (see enclosed). The Open Classroom Project will focus on post-secondary barriers access and success for post-secondary age students coming from refugee backgrounds, including those who may have been displaced from structured secondary education and thus may not fit typical admission profiles.

The Open Classroom Project is currently in the feasibility stage of development. Given the importance of this initiative, we wish to host a teleconference with Ottawa's Settlement Community to discuss:


-          Any insight into precedents/lessons learned;

-          Information as to other initiatives that are underway;

-          Similar programs that are ongoing or in the development stage; and

-          Any prospect of piggybacking or combining the Open Classroom with other initiatives?

In short, want to make sure that what we do dovetails with what may be happening in the resettlement community.
