We hope this e-mail finds all of you well.



We would like to remind that RSTP will hold two workshops next week in Surrey BC - one workshop for those interested in sponsorship as a Group of Five, and the second workshop for those who would like to engage in Community Sponsorship.



Also, RSTP will be organizing two training sessions in Kamloops BC on September 16-17, 2016.



Below you will find more information and instructions to register for the events in Surrey and in Kamloops.



SURREY BC


1)     Private Refugee Sponsorship: Group of Five
When: August 30, 2016 (Tuesday), 5:30pm - 8pm
Where: DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society, 13455 76 Ave, Surrey, BC

A workshop for new sponsorship groups and interested community members who wish to form a Group of Five to engage in private refugee sponsorship.
Join us and learn about requirements for group members, eligibility criteria for sponsored applicants, sponsorship process and timelines, and how to complete sponsorship application forms.

2)     Private Refugee Sponsorship: Community Sponsor
When:  August 31, 2016 (Wednesday), 5:30pm - 8pm

A workshop for new and existing sponsorship groups and interested community members who wish to learn more about sponsoring as a Community Sponsor.
Join us and learn about requirements for sponsorship groups, eligibility criteria for sponsored applicants, sponsorship process and timelines, and how to complete sponsorship application forms.

KAMLOOPS BC



1)     Introduction to Private Refugee Sponsorship and eligibility criteria to sponsor as a Group of Five or a Community Sponsor

When: Friday, September 16, 2016; from 4pm to 7pm

Where: Hills of Peace Lutheran Church, 695 Robson Drive, Kamloops, BC

The session will cover the following topics:

- Overview of global refugee situation;

- How Private Refugee Sponsorship works;

- Who are refugees and who is eligible to be privately sponsored;

- How to form a Group of Five and prepare a sponsorship application;

- How to sponsor as a Community Sponsor and prepare a sponsorship application.

2)     Private Refugee Sponsorship: Supporting Settlement and Integration

When: Saturday, September 17, 2016; from 10am to 3:30pm

Where: Hills of Peace Lutheran Church, 695 Robson Drive, Kamloops, BC


This training session is intended for sponsorship groups who have submitted their applications and are currently waiting for the sponsored newcomers to arrive, or those who have recently welcomed sponsored newcomers.

The session will cover the following topics:

- The role of sponsors

- Stages of Settlement and Cultural Adjustment

- Practicing ethical considerations

- Managing unrealistic expectations

- Phasing Out and Preparing for Long-Term
