Dear colleagues,

 

Please find below a message from IRCC's massage regarding private sponsors
of refugees:

 

In the current context of significant interest in refugee resettlement we
are reaching out to ensure that we correctly record destining information
for privately sponsored Syrian refugees. We want to make sure that the
communities within which refugees will reside in Canada is recorded as the
place of destination. There may have been instances in which the location of
the Sponsorship Agreement Holder (rather than the responsible constituent
group), or one member of a Group of Five, was identified as the refugee's
place of destination even though the refugee would be living in a different
community.

 

In order to address this issue going forward, upon receipt of the
sponsorship application, the Department (through Case Processing Office -
Winnipeg [CPO-W]) will confirm with all sponsors the destination city
provided for all Syrian applications. Therefore,  over the coming days,
CPO-W will contact sponsors to confirm that the destination city provided
for Syrian applications on the IMM 008 form is accurate at time of file
creation.  Upon data entry of the Syrian application into GCMS, CPOW will
contact the sponsor by phone and send an email (if no answer by phone) to
confirm the destination city provided in the sponsorship application. This
will also be done for all Syrian applications in the current inventory.
Sponsors will have 24 hours to confirm the destination city.  The
application will not be placed on hold and will continue to be processed.
